The Beach Cities Health District is retrofitting the Los Angeles Living Streets Manual for the South Bay. (You can read the draft here.) The final manual is meant to be used as a guide by City Councils, Planners and Traffic Engineers in Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach, with the goal being to make the Beach Cities more walkable and bike-friendly.
As part of the project, BCHD hired a consultant to recommend changes to Aviation Blvd., between Rosecrans and PCH. It's a heavily traveled corridor, carrying 25,000-48,000 cars each day on segments through the Beach Cities. Suggestions included adding crosswalks, bike lanes, medians, dedicated turn lanes, a roundabout, and the "repurposing" of lanes on two segments.
BCHD held three meetings where ideas were explored and/or presented. We're posting the content of the most recent meeting (April, 23, 2018) here, and invite your comments. It will be up to the individual cities to approve and fund any changes, so we encourage you to contact your council members with your thoughts.
